HR strategy, policies and employee handbooks

Connect your people practices to what your business needs next.

HR strategy, engagement and talent management

As your business grows and changes, your people practices need to keep pace. I help you identify priorities, connect the work already happening, and build a practical plan you can follow through on.

Where we can focus

  • An HR plan aligned with your business goals and strategic priorities.
  • Employee feedback and practical engagement action plans.
  • Performance and talent processes that work together.
  • Succession planning and employee development.
  • More consistent practices across teams or locations.

We will start with what is happening today, identify what needs attention, and agree on a manageable plan. The goal is to make your people practices useful to your business and the people using them.

Clear policies. Shared expectations.

Your policies should help people understand how your workplace operates and what is expected of them.

I work with you to update or create policies and employee handbooks that reflect your business, use clear language, and support consistent decisions. Relevant Alberta employment requirements are considered as part of that work. We will also ensure there is a plan in place to educate staff and stay current.

How we will work together

  • Review what you already have and where questions keep coming up.
  • Discuss how your workplace operates and what needs to change.
  • Develop clear policies for your review and feedback.
  • Plan how to introduce the changes to employees and managers.

Whether you need one policy updated or a more complete handbook, we will agree on the scope and fees before work begins. Where a matter needs legal review, I will identify it with you.

Questions employers ask

How much does it cost to create an employee handbook?

It depends on the size of the business and how many policies you already have. I review what exists first, then collaborate with you on how the project can unfold.

What if my business does not have a handbook?

Some policies are required by all Alberta employers. Without written policies, staff learn the rules by guessing, discipline is inconsistent and decisions are harder to defend.

Can ChatGPT write an employee handbook?

It can produce a generic draft. It will not know your workplace, and it often mixes in rules from other provinces or the United States. A handbook that states a rule wrong can cause more trouble than no handbook.

How often should a handbook be updated?

Review it at least once a year, and whenever Alberta changes a rule or your business changes how it works. Alberta requires a harassment and violence prevention policy to be reviewed at least every 3 years.
